Thoughts on advertising…

One of the best things about working in real estate is the ability to carve out your own path and build your business the way you want.

Granted, there are those who have gone before us and set trends that the rest of us consider “norms” that we should follow.

One of those norms that I’ve always tried to push back against is using my personal photo in advertising.  I look around and rarely see professionals using a headshot of themselves on their business cards or advertising media.  Why do Realtors feel so obliged to use their face to sell a house?  I don’t know.  I guess it’s always been done, so we’ll continue to follow suit.

I recently listed the Taco John’s building in Dover.  I needed four 4 foot by 8 foot signs to advertise the building for sale.  I spoke with the printer at length about whether or not to use my face on the ad.  It seemed silly to use my photo to try to sell the building!  The printer did two digital mock ups of the signs and sent them to me to review.  One with my face and one without.  I put the decision out to family and friends and the unanimous response was to use the one with my photo

I’ll go ahead and apologize now to all of you who drive by Taco John’s multiple times a day and have to endure all four of me staring at you.  🙂  Help me find a buyer so I can take the signs down!  Ha.
